Battalion School Carnival 2010

This year the Battalion School Carnival was held on June 11, 2010. While the weather was damp, it did not dampen our spirits for raising funds for this worthwhile organization.

To increase the fun a Photobooth was set up with the help of our friends at drgphotography.ca and everyone was invited to stop by the booth and have their picture taken.

As you can see in the Gallery Slideshow below some great pictures were taken. Again our thanks to everyone who stopped by! See you next year!

Battalion School Carnival 2009

Over the last few years we have excitedly been involved in the Battalion school Carnival. A whopping 1000 neighborhood kids and their parents gathered together to enjoy an evening of fun! Games, contests, DJ and dancing filled Signal Hill with laughter on June 4th 2009. Local children were having a blast "Dunking their Dentist “and getting dunked themselves!

Upon arrival each child received a Sierra balloon and loot bag filled with toys, stickers and of course oral care tools such as cartooned toothbrushes, paste and floss. If “Dunk the Dentist” wasn’t your cup of tea, there were air filled Bouncers, Obstacle Course, Money Tunnel, Loony Walk, Wandering Clowns and many other Carnival Games. A great basket filled with his and hers electric toothbrushes as well as an 8GB i-Pod TOUCH and other oral care items was donated to the hugely successful silent auction. Thanks to all of the generous participants and volunteers who helped raise $12,000 for Battalion School! This was the best year yet!

Sierra Studio - Client Testimonials

We are extremely fortunate and find it very rewarding to hear back from our clients about how their smile transformations have changed their lives. To all of them, thank you for sharing your experiences with us.

So I’m one of those 50+ guys that used to say my teeth were just fine as they were – a perfectly good old gold crown, a mouth full of those old metal fillings and teeth that were a little crooked as well. Who would really notice anyway? That was my assessment!  Boy, was I wrong on all counts!

Of course, I’d made sure my children had the healthiest mouth and best ‘smile’ they could have since they were tiny by going regularly to the dentist, good brushing habits and even setting them on the ‘braces route’.  I never really thought much about my teeth...they were working just fine!

Well, with a little coaching and input from the folks at Sierra, I realized that at this stage in my life, there actually was more to it!  A healthier mouth is what will improve my quality of life over the next decades by staving off  unpleasant, preventable, health issues:  gum disease, tooth decay, improper bite, and more.   So, I embarked on a process to make my mouth as good as it could be given the options as recommended by my Sierra dental team:  Replace all those old metal fillings and gold crown (they weren’t really in as good shape as I thought) and the 18-24 month process to straighten my teeth and further improve my dental health.

Now, I feel,  this is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.  Already, I no longer grind my teeth (so I don’t wake up with a sore jaw and or headache); I got rid of some “bad stuff” hiding under those old metal fillings and that old gold crown; my gum health has improved dramatically.  And, wow, my teeth really are much straighter.

I’m not done yet, but I am looking forward to the final product and many years of better dental health as a result of finally accepting the advice of some real pros!

Much thanks to Murray and the gang at Sierra Dental.

Take care,

Ron

I started using the Perio Protect tray after being told my gums were in bad shape.  I was not going to go back to the Periodontist, I already did that route, so thought why not give it a try.  I was skeptical but WOW, what a difference.  I have no more bleeding gums, have whiter teeth, fresh breath and feel that I am doing something for my all around health.  I am a Breast Cancer survivor and want to take charge of my health.  I feel great.

Dr. Murray Knebel:

I am truly thankful for your expert care on my jaw as I do not know what I would have done had you not proceeded as you saw fit.  When I came down in June of o9 I was unable to open my jaw more than 1 finger width, and had an enormous amount of pain. I could not eat anything hard, nor bite down on food.

You had me bring my records and you immediately saw the "grinding" I was doing and the effects it was having on my teeth, as well as on my jaw.  I had been to see a specialist here in Red Deer and he scared me with his ideas, which included braces...I was frustrated that other dentists over the years have not noticed how I was grinding down my molars, or damaging my teeth as was evident when you showed me the lines which were very small cracks in my front bi-cuspids..You fit me with a type of mold which was clear and plyable.  I wore it faithfully especially at night.  I began noticing some relief after a few weeks.

The machine you hooked me up to there massaged my jaw..and I continued to have face/neck massages back here in Red Deer.  On December 8th, I had my first peice of celery!! That was a turning point for me.

When I came to see you in February we discussed the option of having the new mold made up which has a harder texture, clear plastic and would fit in to my mouth much better.  I am glad I chose to have the LV style.  It fits accurately and is molded to each tooth. It is very light inside my mouth.  I could eat with it in, but I prefer not to.  The muscles in my jaw no longer ache, I do not feel like I have a device in my mouth, and I no longer clench my teeth together during the day.  It is well worth the investment, and a huge benifit from having to wear braces.

I am grateful for your professionalism, care, and concern and I look forward to seeing you again in 6 months for a small adjustment.

Sincerely,
Peggy

Dear Dr. Knebel,

I write this letter as a thank you, to you and your staff and as a testimonial for the high regard I have for the knowledge, skills and capabilities you possess as a dental practitioner specializing in Restorative Dentistry.

For many of years I had been plagued with excessive wear on my teeth due to bite misalignment and night grinding. This had caused me to fracture a number of molars and the wear on my front teeth had reached a stage where the damage was visibly apparent. I was embarrassed to show my teeth when I smiled.

Much more than just the cosmetic, I also suffered from constant, painful headaches/migraines from the excessive clenching. I had sought treatment options from a variety of specialists in Calgary who had proposed bite alignment and a restorative plan for my teeth. After many consultations, I felt that with your broad base of experience and the confidence you had shown, that the treatment plan you proposed would give me the best chance of alleviating my issues and restoring my smile.

Since undergoing the full reconstruction of my dental work, I must say the change has been
amazing. My teeth have been restored to a very natural looking state where I am proud to showoff my teeth now and receive many compliments now on my smile. I feel very comfortable with the alignment, no longer feel a need to gnash or grind my teeth and most importantly, my longstanding headaches have gone away as has my penchant for pain relievers.

In closing, I would like to state that I am extremely pleased with my results. I would highly
recommend you to anyone who is looking for relief from the perils of night grinding and seeking
to have their dental work restored. The change has been amazing and I can’t thank you enough!
Best Regards,
Kevin King

Rhoda's Story - I knew at some point I would need full dentures

Rhoda's Story - I knew at some point I would need full denturesI started my associated with Dr. Knebel about 18 years ago. I had come from another province and he was highly recommended by a friend. Dr. Knebel has earned my gratitude and highest respect over the years. I have been dealt with in all of my dental needs with respect and honesty. I had worked in the field of dentistry as a dental assistant for 15 years before leaving to pursue a career in finance. Since I had some experience in the field of dentistry it did not take me long to realize what a fine dentist and human being Dr. Knebel is.

Both Dr. Knebel and I knew that at some point I would need full dentures. For me this was going to be my nightmare. I had seen patients who had so much difficulty with their dentures and I was hoping beyond hope that I would not be one of those persons. I had been diagnosed with cancer and had to do Chemo for a six-month period. When I was done with the treatment it was decided that we would begin the work of making me a complete set of dentures. This was not a simple taks because it was decided that I should have some implants in the my lower jaw. These were done by Dr. Knebel & Dr. Timkiew. I was then introduced to Rob Davidson who would be doing my dentures. I love laughter and Rob Davidson was really up to the task. Rob convinced me through laughter and so much kindness that I was going to be ok. I had a total of 6 appointments to complete all the stages of getting my dentures. With each appointment Rob would say, "We both have to agree that you are happy with how these teeth look and fit." "Only then will I be happy", my dentures were completed and I was thrilled with how nice the teeth looked and how comfortable they were. Rob told me that there would probably be additional appointments for sore spots and adjustments that may be needed, I had a total of 4 appointments to make adjustments to my new dentures. Rob always showed concern and care when I appeared to solve the problems I was having. I now have a set of the best-looking best-fitting dentures in Calgary. Rob with his knowledge, professionalism and sense of fun made all of this so easy. This man is so good at what he does. I could not give him a higher recommendation.

Sierra Centre - Damon BracesAmie's Story - How braces changed my life!

Amie's Story - How Braces Changed My Life!"When I first moved to Canada my teeth fit into the British stereotypical category of crooked and crowded. It never occurred to me that I could have them fixed, until I was actually sat in the office with pink gunk being forced into my mouth, for dental impressions.

The two years of braces were painful at times, and not to mention very inconvenient when you wanted to eat a whole apple or popcorn, but I wouldn’t change any of it for the world. Looking back at pictures of myself in grade eight, you can see how my jaw was off centre, and my teeth all shifted to one side.

You compare it to a picture of me now and the difference is amazing. I have obviously grown in the last five years, since the pictures were taken, but you can still see the transformation. And this may sound crazy, but now when I’m smiling for a photo it’s a natural smile, not one where at the time you were saying to yourself, “I really hope this turns out better than the last picture.” And even then, before braces very few pictures showed my teeth. Most were a somewhat forced smile with my lips pressed together.

No longer do I fit into the stereotypical group of British with bad teeth. People hear the accent but are confused by the fantastic smile. I find myself smiling all the time, and that’s no exaggeration. Even two years later, after having my braces removed, I still get ompliments. People who have known me for ages still, when talking to me, stop me mid-sentence and say, “Wow, your teeth are perfect” It always manages to make my day and I absolutely love my smile now. "

Thank You!

Amie

Edyta's Story - Why I love Invisalign

Sierra Centre - InvisalignI used to be self-conscious about my smile and I wasn't receptive to having traditional braces. That all changed when a friend recommended that I give Invisalign braces a try. I couldn't believe how convenient, non-obstructive and most of all how virtually invisible they are! I can remove my Invisaligns any time so they don't interfere with my everyday life.

Regards,

Edyta

I am thrilled with the results that I got from my braces. I don't think I could've gotten my treatment at the Sierra Studio better anywhere else. Carly Leung, Age 14

Jacquie's Story - Self conscious of my smile

For as long as I can remember I have always been self conscious of my front teeth because of the gap in between them. I eventually had the gap closed with bonding which made me feel a little better about them but I had to be careful what I ate because the bonding wasn’t very strong and would break quite easily.

When I moved to Calgary I met with Dr Rootes and he had me rate my smile on a scale of 1 to 10. He asked me what he could do to make my number higher. He provided me with several options and I decided to go with veneers on my four front teeth. I have always been nervous about the dentist due to past experiences not being very favorable. Dr Rootes always asks you during the procedures, "How are you doing?" or "Are you feeling anything?" It’s nice to know that making sure you are comfortable, is one of his priorities. The whole process was very quick and easy. The end result is amazing!!! I don’t think I have ever smiled this much in my life and I am no longer ashamed of the way that my teeth look. Throughout the whole process, Dr Rootes and Nicole worked with me, both being extremely understanding and caring. I felt safe and had total trust in them.

They have definitely changed my outlook on going to the dentist and I am no longer as nervous. I would without doubt recommend Dr. Rootes to all my family, friends and colleagues. I feel very fortunate to have met Dr. Rootes and to have him as my dentist. He went above and beyond all the expectations that I had.

Thank you so much for making me smile, not only on the inside but on the outside too!!

Jacquie

Kim's Story - Embarrassed about my front teeth

Just a quick note to say thank you so much for the work you did on my teeth. My front teeth were something I have always been a bit embarrassed about and I can honestly say that, since having the work done on them, I now hold my head higher, am not embarrassed to smile and it has given me an overall confidence boost.

The care that I received from the Sierra Centre for Dental Wellness, in particular from Dr. Dan Roots and Nicole was above and beyond any dental experience I have ever been through in the past. The care was personal, I truly believed that you cared about me and that the work that you did was top notch.

I do not know how to thank you enough for a job well done. I would recommend you to anyone and everyone.

Thank you, from one very satisfied customer!!!

Kim

Sedation saved me!

I would like to express my appreciation for your sedation services during the past three years. Due to an unfortunate experience in 2005 with another Dentist I began to fear the Dentist at a higher level than I did previously. I knew avoiding the dentist office was not going to solve this problem so I turned to the option of sedation and to your services.

My experience with your service has been excellent; your staff are professional, courteous and considerate. Your instructions to prepare me for the appointment are always easy to follow and I arrive for my visit in a relaxed frame of mind. I don’t remember anything after climbing into the dental chair and I am completely relaxed the entire time and when I arrive home.

I have no hesitation recommending your dental sedation service to anyone.

Sierra helps Pat get over his fear of the dentist.

I wanted to send a note to say thank you so much for helping me. I have had a fear of the dentist for so long that I let a small thing become a big problem in my mouth. You were all kind to me and the sedation worked so well that I can’t remember anything about the procedure. You took the time to realize my fears and had the compassion to prescribe the right medication so that my pain and discomfort were forgotten entirely.  I would recommend you to anyone who has a fear of the dentist and will not hesitate to return to you as a patient going forward.

Thank you for everything you have done for me.

Pat Wiebe

"Integrity, professional ethics & standard"

Several years ago, excessive grinding of my teeth has caused severe wear to enamel and exposed dentin.  My teeth were pretty much flattened out.   I used to feel embarrassed even to open my mouth and smile.  I could not even chew the food properly. Finally, in August of 2007 I decided to see Dr. Knebel about the reconstruction of my teeth.  It took me few months to decide to proceed with the treatment.

In January 2008, Dr. Knebel started the reconstruction of my teeth.  It took six months for the procedure to complete which involved inserting 26 crowns and one implant.

This was one of the best decisions I made in my life to have my teeth reconstructed and especially having Dr. Knebel to perform this treatment.  Dr. Knebel demonstrated a best example of professionalism every step of the way. The thing I will remember most about this treatment is when Dr. Knebel observed a miniscule discrepancy while inserting upper crowns and he decided to have all the upper crowns re-done again.  He wanted a perfect fit of upper crowns with the lower crowns. By doing so he demonstrated the highest interity, professional ethics and standard.
